GLADSTONE, MI— Two bond proposals for the Gladstone Area Schools District are on the May 6 election ballot.
The first—a $16.9 million proposal—would upgrade buildings and technology. It would also add to programming, like industrial arts at the junior high school and preschool to Cameron Elementary.
The second—a $4.8 million bond proposal—would be used to construct a multi-purpose room onto the high school. Superintendent Jay Kulbertis says all sorts of clubs and activities are competing for space right now.
“Robotics typically takes over our lunchroom in the evenings, so they unpack all of their stuff and have to pack everything back up. It’s just a whole lot of busy work for them. It would be space for them. Our wrestling team, our varsity wrestling team, has their current home based down at our junior high school.”
Kulbertis says these projects are just too big to take care of through the general fund.
A focus group was formed to talk about what the community might support, proposal-wise. Discussions culminated in the idea to offer two bond proposals instead of just one.
