MARQUETTE, MI— The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees has approved appointments to the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC), which will help to identify prospective candidates for NMU's next president.
The board had previously retained the services of Parker Executive Search of Atlanta, Ga., to coordinate the process. As an initial step, Parker President Laurie Wilder moderated a listening session on campus May 6 to gather feedback that will be used to create the position description for the next president.
The Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) will work with the firm on all facets of the search. Responsibilities include reviewing resumes, interviewing top candidates, and identifying three to five unranked finalists to present to the NMU Board of Trustees, who will make the final selection.
Former NMU Trustee Tami Seavoy of Marquette will serve as chair of the PSAC.
“Like most of the NMU community, I'm sorry we need to undertake another presidential search so soon,” Seavoy said. “I was impressed by the level of participation in the listening session last week, proving that NMU faculty, staff and students have embraced their role in the process. The board has appointed an excellent advisory committee to provide broad representation and a transparent process to identify the best candidates for the board's consideration.”
“We are sincerely thankful to Tami for stepping up to serve as chair, and to the advisory committee membership for agreeing to invest the time and attention required for this important search for Northern's next president,” said NMU Board Chair Steve Young. “Because the PSAC will play a pivotal role in the process, it was a priority for us to ensure that its membership represents a variety of stakeholders and interests, both on campus and off.”
Gavin Leach was appointed interim president by the board, effective July 1. He will transition from his current role of vice president for Finance and Administration.
