NEGAUNEE, MI— A sinking fund millage proposal for Negaunee Public Schools is on the August ballot.
The district is asking for 2.4516 mills, which would generate more than $1,087,000 in 2027, if approved.
Superintendent Andy Skewis says the district would use the money for security upgrades in all buildings, maintenance and upgrades of instructional technology, renovations, parking lot improvements, and the purchase of school buses. He says passage of the proposal would allow for long-term strategic planning.
“Without a sinking fund, then all those things that we discussed would need to be paid for through general fund monies, and those monies are a little bit harder to predict, harder to plan for.”
The election will be held Tuesday, August 5. Public Radio 90 will have results the next morning.
