MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University is holding an Environmental Action Week, starting Wednesday.
The events aim to highlight the role of activism and advocacy as they relate to the environment, climate, and sustainability.
Wednesday at 6 p.m. in 2315 Jamrich Hall, Puerto Rican poet Mara Pastor will read excerpts from her award-winning poetry book, “Deuda Natal,” which features environmental themes. She will also hold a Poetry and Environment workshop Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Jamrich.
Monday will feature Making Music for Social and Environmental Change at 4 p.m. in the Wahtera Pavilion. Local musicians Tyler Dettloff, Ash Roskowski, Brian Wallen, and Jon Gillette will discuss how their music promotes social and environmental change. They’ll also perform.
On September 25, Engaging in Conflict with Civility will be held at 6 p.m. in 1315 Jamrich Hall. This workshop encourages participants to rethink conflict and become involved in civil discourse with people outside of their own social and political circles.
