MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette Area Public Schools has received the results of a survey asking residents how the district should address critical infrastructure needs.
Officials recently prioritized more than $100 million in potential projects. If the community supports exploring a bond proposal, the district developed a $60 million base plan that would address those projects.
The results from independent data firm School Perceptions, LLC, shows nearly 2,000 people responded to the survey.
- 74 percent did not have children in the district.
- 69 percent of resident parents supported the $60 million Priority 1 Projects Bond Proposal.
- 53.8 percent of all survey respondents support the $60 million Priority 1 Projects Bond Proposal.
- 72 percent of respondents feel that MAPS is delivering a high-quality education.
An official with School Perceptions says all major subgroups support the district exploring a bond proposal, and at least 50 percent of all subgroups support the $60 million Priority 1 Projects as a bond proposal.
The mills for the Priority 1 Projects Bond Proposal would be 1.55 over the current level for 30 years. Annual property taxes would increase by about $77.50 per $100,000 of property value.
