Sonderegger Symposium looks at maritime history at NMU

MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University’s 25^th annual Sonderegger Symposium will be held this Friday.

The event features a number of presentations about Upper Peninsula history. The theme of this year’s symposium is Above and Below the Surface: Maritime History of the Great Lakes. It was inspired by the 50^th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald but deals with a number of other topics. Speakers include noted maritime scholars, authors, curators and divers.

The symposium begins at 9 a.m. Friday in Northern Center Ballroom IV. It is free and open to the public.
