NMU, GCC form pathway to help community college students get bachelor's degrees

IRONWOOD AND MARQUETTE, MI— Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University have reached an articulation agreement designed to help transfer students get a bachelor’s degree.

In the direct admission program, GCC students will be admitted to NMU during their time at GCC. They will have access to academic and career advising, Lydia M. Olson Library privileges, a MyNMU account, an NMU email address, a free official transcript from GCC and access to campus events and student life activities.

Officials say the agreement serves as a bridge between the two institutions by facilitating student entry or re-entry into a bachelor's degree program at Northern, with the goal of increasing transfer student retention and graduation rates.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
