BARAGA, MI— The National Science Foundation has given Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College a grant to expand its applied research capabilities.

KBOCC was given $700,000 for a project called “Enhancing Academic Experiences within Applied Research, A-I Integration, and Workforce Readiness.” It will be headed by Tim Raymond, chair of the Human Studies Department, and Ruby Alhajjar, chair of the Health Science Department.

They say by bringing together several disciplines, students will become active participants in research, design, and innovation to address real-world health and environmental challenges.

The college’s Fabrication and Systems Technology Lab will serve as the project’s hub.
