Monday is the last day to register to vote in August primary

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Monday is the last day to register to vote in Michigan’s August primary.

On August 7 voters from both parties will choose their candidates for governor, U.S. Senate, Congress and state House and Senate.

Bill Ballenger is a political analyst and founder of The Ballenger Report. He says voter turnout is never good in primaries – even though they’re more important than the general election.

“And I know it’s hard for people to believe that, but most political offices in the state of Michigan are decided in primaries, not in the general election,” he says.

Ballenger says it’s because most districts are heavily Republican or Democrat, so the candidate for the party in power is likely to win the general election. He says if 20 percent of the registered voters show up for a primary, it’s considered a good turnout.
