MARQUETTE, MI-- Marquette County’s clerk doesn’t anticipate any problems in the November general election.
Linda Talsma says her office received more absentee ballots than usual in the August primary. She believes there will be even more next month because more people usually vote in the general election, but she says her office is prepared.
“We have what’s called absentee voter counting boards and I have a few more in place for this election, which will make our absentee voter counting go much more smoothly,” she says.
A law allowing officials to open absentee ballot envelopes the day before the election to speed the counting process won’t be used in the U.P., as it applies only to municipalities of 25,000 or more.
Absentee ballot drop-boxes will be placed at City Hall and at the Marquette Municipal Building. Cities and townships in the county will have their own.
Talsma is asking voters who go to the polls to wear masks. She notes materials at the polls will be repeatedly disinfected.
Anyone with issues on Election Day is urged to call the Marquette County Clerk’s Office.
