IOHRA seeks millage in August primary

MARQUETTE, MI— A millage renewal proposal for the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority is on the August 2nd primary ballot.

The renewal seeks .1970 mills for six years in the townships of Chocolay, Marquette, Negaunee, and Tilden Townships and the cities of Marquette, Negaunee, and Ishpeming.

Over the past six years, amenities like weather shelters, viewing platforms, fishing access, and parking areas have been added to the trail. Future plans for the trail include a five-mile, non-motorized trail extension to Lakenenland in Chocolay Township, providing a multi-use trailhead at Winthrop Junction, adding single track trails along the main route for fat tire and snow bike users, lighting along the Ishpeming/Negaunee connection for additional hours of winter time use, and more destination interpretive sites.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
