Early voting deemed a success in Marquette County

MARQUETTE, MI— It’s presidential primary day in Michigan, but a number of Marquette County residents voted before today.

A nine-day early voting period allowed citizens to cast their ballots at six sites February 17-25.

Marquette County Clerk Linda Talsma says 502 people voted. She says the system worked without a hitch but she may need to tweak the times of day early voting will be available.

“We’re trying to right now, trying to figure out if the times I chose were good for everyone. So, I’m looking for feedback on that. Right now, I’m running them 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for those nine days.”

Votes cast early are counted along with absentee and Election Day ballots after the polls close.

Talsma says the City of Marquette did a test run of the early voting process in November and that helped last week’s voting effort go smoothly.
