GWINN, MI— Gwinn Area Community Schools has a $30.925 million bond proposal on Tuesday’s ballot.
Superintendent Sara Croney says the district’s buildings are 65 years old. The middle/high school’s roof membrane waves in high wind, the science labs all have original cabinetry, and the building contains asbestos tiles.
Croney says if approved, the money would be used to create a security area by the front door where people who want to enter the building can be screened. It would also create a space where students could practice the trades and use equipment inside.
Croney states that Gwinn students deserve to learn in updated buildings.
“All of these students are part of our world and they are worthy of having appropriate, safe schools,” she says.
Polls open tomorrow at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. More information is at www.michigan.gov/sos.
