NEWBERRY, MI-- The Duck Lake Fire in Luce County is now 100 percent contained. That’s according to the Department of Natural Resources, which says the blaze stands at 21,069 acres.
The fire, which started from a lightning strike nearly three weeks ago, claimed 49 homes and cabins—including a store and motel, 23 garages, 38 sheds and outbuildings and 26 campers.
Officials say fire crews constructed more than 42.6 miles of fire line to contain the blaze. A total of 57 personnel remain on the scene, mopping up, preparing for timber salvage, and assessing ORV trails for damage.
The DNR is reminding residents that resorts, state parks, campgrounds, and other businesses in the area are open and ready for business.
