DNR wants to change trout stream designations in U.P.

LANSING, MI--   The Michigan Department of Natural Resources wants to establish a new trout stream category in the Upper Peninsula.

Right now there are four categories of streams.  The new category—to be called Type 5—would let anglers in the U.P. take more brook trout than is currently allowed.

On Type 5 stream segments the daily possession limit for brook trout would be ten fish.  The minimum size limit would be seven inches.

The DNR is proposing that all or portions of ten U.P. rivers and streams be placed under the Type 5 category.  They were selected from existing Type 1 streams, which have a daily possession limit of five fish and a seven-inch minimum size limit.
