AuTrain River saved from flooding

WLUC-TV

AuTRAIN, MI--   Alger County officials had to act quickly Wednesday to make sure the AuTrain River wasn’t dammed up by sand.

Intense wave action on Lake Superior Wednesday morning pushed massive amounts of sand into the mouth of the river, forcing it to rise at about an inch an hour and prompting concerns about flooding.  Around noon authorities brought in an excavator and dug sand from the mouth of the river, allowing it to flow normally again.

No flooding was reported by any of the residents along the river.
