Keweenaw trust acquires Hungarian Falls

HUBBELL, MI (AP)--   A piece of the Upper Peninsula is being saved for the ages.

The Keweenaw Land Trust has acquired a 10-acre parcel that includes Hungarian Falls, a site popular with generations of area residents.

The site is just north of Lake Linden in Houghton County.

The Daily Mining Gazette says the trust plans to keep the site open to the public while making changes that include adding picnic tables and signs. The land trust held a dedication ceremony Saturday to mark the acquisition of the land from the Torch Lake Area Fire Protection Authority.

Trust director Evan McDonald says a design team from Michigan Technological University is assessing the land and will recommend different approaches for managing it.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
