Burt Township gets money to protect drinking water

BURT TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Upper Peninsula community is getting money from the Department of Environmental Quality to protect its drinking water sources.

The funding provides areas that rely on well or surface water for drinking water with matching money to protect the water from contamination.

Alger County’s Burt Township has been awarded $7,500.  The money will be used to define the area contributing drinking water, identify potential contaminants, and implement strategies and educational programs to protect the water supply.

The next round of applications will be available in May of 2016.
