LANSING, MI (AP)-- The newly established Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board is having its first meeting Wednesday in Lansing.
Governor Rick Snyder issued an executive order last month creating the board. It was among the recommendations in a report produced by a task force that investigated the state's network of pipelines carrying crude oil and other petroleum products, including lines that run beneath the Straits of Mackinac.
The board's leaders are Executive Director Valerie Brader of the Michigan Agency for Energy and Dan Wyant, director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
It will advise state agencies on pipeline routing, construction, operation and maintenance in addition to communication with the public.
The 15 members include representatives of the pipeline, oil and gas, and tourism industries, along with environmental advocacy groups and other interests.
