Melting snow affects winter activities

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources is warning snowmobilers about poor trail conditions across the state.

Officials say during this stretch of warmer weather, trails exposed to the sun and portions in low-lying areas could become impassible. Riders are urged to operate with caution and be aware of changing conditions.

Warmer temperatures have also forced the cancelation of a Marquette event.  The Downtown Showdown Rail Jam scheduled for February 4 will not be held because of unfavorable conditions.  City officials say significant snow melt has affected the quantity and quality of snow available for the course.
