Bathroom replacement postponed at McLain State Park

HANCOCK, MI (AP)--   Construction of a new bathroom building at F.J. McLain State Park in Houghton County is being postponed until fall.

Erosion at the park has been a problem at in recent years, leading rangers to close some campsites and other features. Repairs and improvements are to begin later this year. The toilet-shower building is among facilities vulnerable to erosion. Work on a new structure had been planned for this spring but is being delayed until after Labor Day and the busy summer camping season.

Unit supervisor Jamie Metheringham says the existing building will remain open in the meantime, unless a major storm causes more erosion and makes it dangerous.

The 443 acre park is located between Calumet and Hancock.
