UPPCO managing reservoir water levels

MARQUETTE, MI--   Upper Peninsula Power Company will start lowering water levels at its hydroelectric reservoirs in anticipation of melting snow in the spring.

Water levels at UPPCO’s Silver Lake, Hoist, Victoria Dam, Bond Falls and Lake Gogebic reservoirs will be lowered in January. Prickett Dam reservoir levels will be lowered starting in February.

The utility is warning the public that level changes can produce bridging—or air gaps beneath the ice. Increased water flow can also cause the ice to deteriorate, creating unsafe conditions.

UPPCO expects its reservoirs to begin to return to normal levels during the month of April.
