State snowmobile trails to be shut down

LANSING, MI--   State-designated snowmobile trails are closing next week.

The Department of Natural Resources says Monday, April 1 is when grooming contracts and private land agreements expire. Snowmobilers can still ride on state land, but the trails will be closed beginning Monday.

DNR U.P. Trails Coordinator Ron Yesney says Michigan’s snowmobile trail system is dependent upon easements the DNR has secured from private landowners to connect trails between public lands.  He notes as late-winter temperatures begin to rise, riding conditions can become unpredictable and unsafe.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
