Continued winter storm cleanup affects recreational trails

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

MARQUETTE, MI--   Ski and snowmobile trails in Upper Michigan continue to feel the impact of recent snowstorms.

Department of Natural Resources trail specialist Rob Katona says the number of downed trees and limbs work crews are encountering is astonishing. He says in some areas snowmobile clubs have been using bull dozers and excavators to clear the deep snow.

Many trails remain open, but riders are urged to use extra caution. Hazards like logs, rocks and stumps are obscured by snow and some trails are still impassible.

The DNR says recreational trail users should refer to local snowmobile and ski club, or tourism and recreation, websites for the latest trail conditions.
