INTERLOCHEN, MI (MPRN)-- Enbridge Energy won’t delay its Great Lakes tunnel project for the COVID-19 pandemic.
State officials said Wednesday that Enbridge could submit related permit applications as early as next week.
Tribal governments in the region say it’s impossible for them to give input on the project while most of their staff are sheltering in place.
Kathleen Brosemer is the Environmental Director for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
“To think about all of this clock starts ticking next week, in the middle of a global pandemic—when all the governments are in disarray—it's appalling.”
An Enbridge spokesman says the company is working within required deadlines set by its agreements with the State of Michigan.
