Weather breaking down lakes ice, Coast Guard says

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The U.S. Coast Guard is urging residents to use extreme caution when recreating on Great Lakes ice.

Officials have seen a significant warming trend and warmer weather is forecasted for the foreseeable future. Higher temperatures have caused ice in the region to rapidly deteriorate, making crossing the ice extremely hazardous.

The Coast Guard asks people to remain vigilant and remember that no ice is safe ice.
