Pictured Rocks officials propose fee increase, want public input

munising.org

MUNISING, MI--   Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore wants to hear from the public on a proposal to establish an entrance fee and increase fees for camping and lighthouse tours.

Park officials say visits to Pictured Rocks have increased 143 percent over the past decade. That’s straining park infrastructure and has created a $10 million maintenance backlog.

Under the proposal a $7 entrance fee would be implemented in January 2022. That would rise to $11 in 2023 and $15 in 2024. The National Park Service also wants to increase drive-in camping fees from the current $20 to $25. And the fee for tours of the AuSable Lighthouse would increase from $3 to $5 per person.

Public comment will be accepted through June 30. For more information click here. Submit comments via email at piro_fee_comment@nps.gov
