Marquette County wildfire contained

Anthony Reynolds

MARQUETTE, MI--   A wildfire in Marquette County’s Richmond Township has the Department of Natural Resources busy.

The fire started Tuesday afternoon at the southern end of Goose Lake, south of County Road 480. It had consumed about 30 acres by late afternoon. The DNR says four fire engines, two bulldozers and a skidder were brought to the scene. A couple of pontoon planes and a helicopter from the U.S. Forest Service also assisted firefighters.

Officials say the fire is contained as of Wednesday morning. Rain that moved across the Upper Peninsula overnight helped firefighters establish a perimeter.

No damage to any structures has been reported.
