Levels of UPPCO reservoirs to be lowered in January and February

MARQUETTE, MI— Upper Peninsula Power Company will begin lowering water levels at its hydroelectric reservoirs to prepare for melting snow this spring.

The Silver Lake, Hoist, Victoria Dam, Bond Falls and Lake Gogebic reservoirs will be lowered this month. The Prickett Dam reservoir will be lowered starting in February.

Officials say changing water levels may create unsafe ice conditions, due to air gaps under the ice. Increased water flowing in rivers may also cause the ice to deteriorate. Residents are asked to use caution around the reservoirs and nearby rivers, lakes and streams during the lowering periods.
