Marquette recognized for 'green' efforts

MARQUETTE, MI— The City of Marquette has been recognized for its accomplishments in sustainability.

The Michigan Green Communities program recognized 44 counties, cities, townships, and villages that took part in the annual Michigan Green Communities Challenge. The municipalities completed actions in 2021 related to energy efficiency, climate adaptation and resilience, recycling, environmental justice, and more.

Marquette was one of 22 communities that received gold certification for its efforts. The other levels were silver and bronze.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
