Snowmobile trail conditions variable across Michigan

LANSING, MI— The Department of Natural Resources is cautioning snowmobilers about the condition of trails across the state.

Several warm days and rain showers, followed by a quick freeze, eroded trails and made them icy. Ice-covered trails are difficult to groom.

U.P. Trails Coordinator Ron Yesney says snowmobilers are encouraged to check with snowmobile clubs and tourism associations to make sure trails they want to use are ridable.

The DNR encourages all snowmobilers to Ride Right: by decreasing speed, riding on the right-hand side of the trail, riding sober, anticipating and yielding to groomers, and riding safely so you make it home to family and friends.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
