ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI— The Michigan Department of Transportation had to close a section of highway in Ontonagon County due to flooding Thursday.

M-28 at the bridge over the south branch of the Ontonagon River was closed shortly after 1 p.m. as water from spring runoff covered the roadway.

M-28 will be open to local traffic only between US-45 and M-64. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via US-2 and US-45, with the detour reversed for westbound traffic. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. No local road detour routes are available.

And M-35 at County Road MK in Marquette County has alternating lanes of traffic due to water on the road.

MDOT will continue to provide updates, or you can check MiDrivefor closure information.
