MARQUETTE, MI— There are four additional electronic waste drop-off sites in the Upper Peninsula this year, bringing the total number to 12.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy says they’re in Sands Township, Munising, Chatham, and Sault Ste. Marie.
Eight of the sites are funded, in part, by EGLE grants. The other four are at Goodwill retail locations. Officials are in discussions about setting up a permanent collection site in Hannahville, and additional sites are planned for the Iron Mountain area.
EGLE says by working with registered electronics recyclers, collectors can assure the products have a reuse opportunity, or, at a minimum, are properly recycled to protect the environment.
