SWP getting forest restoration grant

MARQUETTE, MI— The USDA Forest Service is giving an Upper Peninsula organization a grant to support a forest restoration project on non-federal land.

The Superior Watershed Partnership is getting $421,321 through the Landscape Scale Restoration competitive grant program.

The project entails using fire mitigation to improve habitat, water quality, and climate resiliency in the northern Great Lakes. It’s open to local units of government, five Native American communities, and private landowners with critical connecting corridors.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
