UPPCO to draw water from reservoirs in January and February

MARQUETTE, MI— Upper Peninsula Power Company is cautioning residents about water level changes at its hydroelectric reservoirs.

UPPCO will begin lowering water levels to prepare for melting snow and precipitation in the coming spring. The Silver Lake, Hoist, Victoria Dam, Bond Falls, and Lake Gogebic reservoirs will be lowered this month. Levels at the Prickett Dam reservoir will be lowered starting in February.

UPPCO officials say changes in water levels can create unsafe ice conditions due to the formation of air gaps beneath the ice.

Residents are asked to be careful around the reservoirs and nearby lakes, rivers, and streams.
