SWP to clean up marine debris from Lake Superior this summer

MARQUETTE, MI— The Superior Watershed Partnership will use funding from the NOAA Marine Debris Program to clean up along Lake Superior this year.

The money will allow the SWP to mobilize the Great Lakes Conservation Corps to hike more than 200 miles of coastline and pick up debris like tires, bicycles, and plastics along the way.

Communities, Tribes, and other Lake Superior coastal property owners are encouraged to contact the SWP. They’re asked to supply information on large debris locations, potential beach cleanup sites, or related marine debris removal sites.

Cleanup events will take place through August.

For more information, contact Kathleen Henry at kathleen@superiorwatersheds.org.
