UPDATE: High bacteria levels prompt closure of Marquette's Tourist Beach

UPDATE: Tourist Beach has been reopened to swimming.

MARQUETTE, MI— Tourist Beach in Marquette is closed due to high E. coli levels.

City officials say recent heavy rains caused elevated levels of bacteria in the water. The beach is closed to swimming until further notice.

The City of Marquette is collecting water samples daily and will reopen the beach to swimming when state water quality standards are met.

Signs have been posted at Tourist Park. All other beaches remain open.
