SWP taking on vape cartridge recycling process in Marquette area

MARQUETTE, MI— The Superior Watershed Partnership and Land Conservancy has made vape cartridge recycling a permanent part of its services.

In 2024, Citizens for a Safe and Clean Lake Superior launched a pilot project to recycle “disposable” nicotine vape cartridges. Since then, through business and nonprofit help, the program has expanded to include more drop-off sites and cannabis cartridges, as well.

To date, nearly 6,000 vape devices—weighing nearly 600 pounds—have been successfully recycled. The SWP has now agreed to continue the pilot project as a permanent part of its Electronic Waste Recycling Program.

On May 12, a volunteer event to prepare collected vapes for shipment to recycling facilities will be held at Peter White Public Library. “Tape the Vapes” begins at 6:30 p.m.
