Fire breaks to be reinforced around Sawyer forests

KI SAWYER, MI— Marquette County will be working with the Superior Watershed Partnership to renew fire breaks in the forest around K.I. Sawyer over the next few weeks.

The Sands Plains area was identified in the Marquette County Wildfire Protection Plan as a high wildfire risk location. The County has historically maintained fire breaks to reduce the risk for the K.I. Sawyer community.

Crews will remove overhanging branches and trees that are encroaching into the fire break. Residents are urged to use caution when utilizing the trails around Sawyer for the next two to three weeks.

Sections of trail where work is occurring will be temporarily closed and the work area will be marked with cones and flagging.
