"Road to Restoration" clinics help drivers get their licenses back

Michigan Department of State

MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Department of State held its first Upper Peninsula ‘Road to Restoration’ driver’s license clinic at NMU on Monday.

Visitors to the clinic had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with staff to understand the necessary steps to restore their driving privileges.

The Road to Restoration program was created after changes to state law in 2021 lifted suspensions for drivers who failed to pay tickets for court fines or failed to appear in court for certain non-moving and other violations.

The next clinic takes place Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce.

Another will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at LSSU’s Norris Center in Sault Ste. Marie.

More information is at www.michigan.gov/r2r.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
