Marquette to join national protest against Trump administration in Saturday march

Facebook

MARQUETTE, MI— A number of Marquette streets will close during a march slated to start at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The “Hands Off! Marquette Fights Back” event is part of a national mass mobilization effort against the Trump administration’s cuts to government and services. Officials say the day is a message to the world that participants do not consent to “the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies.”

On the march’s Facebook page, it says a core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action.

The march will start at the Marquette Commons and is anticipated to last about half an hour. A police escort will accompany marchers.

The following roads will be affected:

  • Third Street from Washington to Main
  • Main Street from Third to Front
  • Front Street from Main to Washington
  • Washington Street from Front to Fourth
  • Fourth Street from Washington to Multi-Use Path

Protests are also scheduled in Escanaba, Houghton, Ironwood, and Sault Ste. Marie.

More information about the march is here.
