Another 'Stop the Cuts' rally held in Marquette

Anthony Reynolds

MARQUETTE, MI— The City of Marquette was the site of another rally over the weekend against actions taken by the Trump Administration.

Hosted by Lake Superior Region Indivisible, in collaboration with 50501 Michigan, Yoopers Unite, and Marquette Citizens for Peace and Justice, the “Stop the Cuts” rally was held Saturday downtown Marquette.

More than 1,000 people lined Washington Street from the post office to the Marquette Food Co-op to protest the closure of local Social Security Administration and Bureau of Indian Affairs offices, the shutdown of Marquette’s Planned Parenthood clinic, and a $40 million reduction in funding for Michigan schools, among other issues.

The group then gathered at the Marquette Commons to hear speakers and music.

Coordinators said the rally aimed to raise awareness, build solidarity, and demand a federal budget that reflects the needs of people—not corporations and billionaires.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
