NEGAUNEE, MI— Several groups came together in Negaunee Wednesday to call for passage of a state road funding plan.
The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, Operating Engineers 324, the Michigan Laborers District Council, and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights joined hundreds of contractors, road construction workers, and labor union members from across the U.P. at the Save Our Jobs, Fund Our Roads event. They and rally participants in Lansing were part of an effort calling on lawmakers to pass a long-term, equitable, and sustainable road funding plan.
Transportation officials say with the expiration of temporary funding and a steep drop in road repair dollars on the horizon, more than 10,000 Michigan jobs would be at risk.
The state House passed a budget last week containing $3.4 billion for roads. The Senate version includes $4 billion.
