Warmer temps not a concern for UP200 officials

MARQUETTE, MI— The UP200, Midnight Run, and Jack Pine 30 sled dog races take place this weekend, and no one’s worried about a lack of snow this year.

UP200 President Ross Anthony says 16 teams are registered for the UP200 and 20 for the Midnight Run. He notes he isn’t too concerned about recent warmer temperatures, as the course is mainly in the woods and trees tend to protect the trails. Anthony says cold nights have also preserved the snow.

“The nice thing with these warmer temperatures over the last couple of days is that the overnight lows have been very low. So, that offsets that daytime temperature, and it stays set up pretty good. It’s when the nighttime temperatures warm up that it becomes a problem.”

For more information and to track the race in real time, go to www.up200.org or look up the UP200 on social media.
