RAPID RIVER, MI— The Rapid River Pub has reopened for business, following an explosion early Monday morning.
Owner Tom Szocinski says someone set a fire at the back of the building around 12:35 a.m. He believes it was a patron who was refused service and allegedly threatened to “take the building down.”
The flames were quickly brought under control by staff and customers and extinguished by the Ensign and Masonville Township fire departments.
The Michigan State Police is investigating the incident and apparently has a suspect in custody. Troopers believe an accelerant was used to ignite the fire.
The pub opened its outside venue from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Szocinski says professional cleaners will be brought in. He hopes to reopen sometime this week.
