Escanaba officials address fire concerns

ESCANABA, MI— The Escanaba Department of Public Safety is addressing concerns about the number of fires in the city this year.

In a press release Thursday, officials said they’re aware of community worry regarding multiple fires in a short period of time. The department’s Fire Investigator has completed origin and cause examinations in each incident, and officials are working with property owners to improve fire safety and upgrade buildings wherever possible to reduce future risks.

Officials said if at any time the department had credible information suggesting a threat—such as an arsonist—was present in the community, they would immediately notify the public and the media. They said community safety is and will always be their top priority.

Members of the community who have questions or would like additional information are encouraged to contact Director Smith or Captain Young.

“We are always willing to discuss fire safety concerns, prevention efforts, and the steps everyone can take to help protect our neighborhoods,” officials said.
