Republican Michigan lawmaker introduces K-12 funding bill

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Legislation aimed at keeping school aid money in funding for kindergarten through 12th grade has been introduced in the Michigan Senate.

Senator Rick Jones says in a release that the education package also would require that all public schools have equal per pupil funding within 10 years.

The Grand Ledge Republican says the joint resolutions are designed to restore the original intent of Proposal A. He says that proposal increased sales tax by 2 percent to protect seniors on fixed incomes from skyrocketing property values and to better fund public education.

Jones says he also plans to introduce a bill next week calling for schools to receive 50 cents per mile for each child transported to and from school by school bus.
