ASSOCIATED PRESS - Hunting season is open for wolf and deer in Michigan.
The state's first wolf hunt since the animal was placed on the endangered species list nearly 40 years ago was getting underway Friday. It's also the start of the Michigan's firearms deer hunting season, which runs through Nov. 30.
There are 1,200 people licensed to participate in the wolf hunt. Michigan is the sixth state to authorize wolf hunting following the removal of federal protections. The season runs through December, unless the maximum kill of 43 is reached beforehand.
Across Michigan, tens of thousands of people are expected to participate in the deer hunt. Hunters are reminded to wear orange clothing and heed limits on bait that can be placed in some locations.
