300,000 in Michigan enroll for Medicaid expansion

  LANSING, Mich. (AP) — More than 300,000 Michigan residents have enrolled in the state's expanded Medicaid program since it launched 11 weeks ago.
The Healthy Michigan Plan began enrollment April 1. Medicaid expansion is anticipated to cover 320,000 low-income adults in the first year, though it could be much more given the rapid race of enrollment so far.
Gov. Rick Snyder said this week the 300,000 milestone "shows that we are moving in the right direction for the health of our residents and our state."
Michigan reports roughly 215,000 of the 301,645 enrollees have picked a health plan.
Applicants must be between 19 and 64, not already eligible for Medicaid and make up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level. That's roughly $16,000 for single person and $33,000 for a family of four.
