Snyder visits civil rights meeting

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Governor Rick Snyder has made a rare visit to outline his priorities at a meeting of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission in Lansing.

The Republican governor told commission members Monday that he wants to focus on the disabled, prisoners, racial issues, immigration and debates surrounding police body cameras and drones.

In response to questions from the commission, Snyder also renewed his call for the Legislature to consider adding LGBT protections to Michigan's civil rights law.

He also expressed interest in creating a special commission to focus on African-American issues, while largely avoiding detailing specifics.

Commission staffers say they don't think a sitting governor has visited a meeting since then-Gov. George Romney swore in the first members in 1964.
